So, the football season has begun in earnest - Aston Villa drew against Odense in the intertoto cup. Not the most exciting of occasions, but it highlights that there is under a month until the start of the new season proper... anyway, I was delight to note that Steve Sidwell's first act of note for Villa was to score an own goal, resulting in this fabulous piece of photo journalism:

For some of us this was actually a pretty exciting occasion you know!
Love Laursen's face in that photo! And the way there's no sense of commiseration for the new boy.
Us Villans all pine for Gordon Cowans you know. The way he used to lollop across rutted 70s pitches that looked like a tractor had been driven across them with the ball seemingly tied to his bootlaces, turning on a sixpence before spraying a glorious fifty yard pass to put Tony Morley away down the left...ah, them were the days!
We're gonna be rubbish this season though.
