5 stars - linkA wonderful example of a teenage guide to absurdist angst, this tale relates the struggles of Christophe, Serge and Jean-Claude as they search for meaning in their existence... which is resolved as they discover it's only to facilitate the song that they've helped make famous. Without them in between the two turtle doves and the four calling birds, the whole thing would descend into an avian farce before the calming influence of the five gold rings appears - clearly a metaphor for the Olympian ideal.
I thought this might be a little over the head of my three year old, but he loved it. Proof that you don't need sex, violence or vampires to engage the mind of today's youth.
